Song and Sound

Music Collection and National Sound Archive

Preserving and promoting the musical traditions of Israel and the Jewish world.

The National Sound Archive and Music Department contains the world's largest collection of Jewish and Israeli music, including commercial and ethnographic recordings of Jewish communities throughout the world as well as Jewish and non-Jewish communities in Israel.

Archives of music legends such as Naomi Shemer are also counted among the collection's treasures, comprised of a range of formats including audio, video, sheet music and more. Over 30,000 hours of recordings have already been digitized and made available on the National Library website.

We welcome new partners and sponsors to join the vision:

  • Digitizing additional recordings, sheet music and manuscripts, with emphasis on the world-leading Yiddish and Ladino music collections
  • Partnering with institutions in Israel and across the globe to facilitate expanded digital access to materials digitized by others
  • Providing comprehensive information about the collection items, benefitting both researchers and musicians
